I’m so glad it’s finally November, it’s one of my favorite months! Not only are the leaves at their peak but Thanksgiving and time with family is just around the corner. Christmas music begins to show up, hot cocoa weather is in full swing, orange and other warm tones surface through sweaters and scarves and an assortment of other things.
It’s so easy to get all wrapped up in things that need to be done, recipes that need to be reviewed before the holidays and cards that need to be prepped to be sent out that sometimes we forget to take a step back for a moment and just enjoy the moment. This is especially true for me this year – not only am I getting ready for a wedding, I’m also trying to prepare a house for myself and soon-to-be hubby!
I guess it’s different when you’re growing up and see this grand adventure starting to happen to someone you know or are close to, but when it’s you starting this adventure you see how much really goes on behind the scenes. It’s more than just preparing a house to be a home, to become the love of your life’s helpmeet or maturing to be the woman of your own home. It’s being there when things are tough – things with the wedding are being planned, dealing with home builders that you don’t quite know what to do with, having those talks with your man about how you both want to run your home and exactly what the goals in life together are. It’s learning to communicate effectively with another person, to learn their hopes and dreams and needs.
It’s also about commitment, respect and quality time. And when the holidays come around, its about creating a beautiful memorable one you (hope) goes off without a hitch! For the two people starting this grand adventure thats the point – their just starting it. There will be speed bumps, potholes, detours and valleys that will happen. And you know, thats okay with me. Because part of the adventure is learning how to create and manage a beautiful life through the potholes and detours.
There is no doubt in my mind that Samuel and I with God’s guidance and grace can overcome anything that life throws at us. Because we both know whats at the heart of both a good marriage and life – keeping Christ at the center of all we do.
And thats what I hope November brings us – God’s ever present grace and guidance. This month also brings having our house finished, having our first Thanksgiving and Christmas together with our families and learning how to fall even more deeply in love with both each other and Christ. We’re far from perfect, but with Christ everything is possible and I know He has amazing things in store from us!
So during this month of November focus on all the prepping and hectic planning, yes, but also remember to take a moment to focus on making memories, working out differences, loving your family and special somebody and basking in God’s ever present grace.
